*What is the Brown Girls Mentoring Program?
The Brown Girls Mentoring Program is a program founded by Jamie Blunt, Ro Beacham and Tia Edwards in 2016 to empower young Brown Girls in all shades of beauty to know their worth, strive for excellence, and to embrace their natural beauty. Our goal is to form lifelong bonds of sisterhood, build confidence and to see every Brown Girl win!

*How long has the Brown Girls Mentoring Program existed?
The Brown Girls Mentoring Program has been in existence since 2016.

*When does enrollment for Brown Girls Mentoring Program begin and end?
The enrollment period for the 2020-2021 mentoring program begins in July and ends in October.

*Where does the mentoring take place?
Mentoring sessions are held at various Columbus Parks and Recreation Centers. 

*How often does the Brown Girls Mentoring Program meet?
Mentoring sessions are held the second and fourth Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. during the months of September to April. We culminate the year in May with our annual Mother’s Day Brunch! 

*Is there an age requirement to join the Brown Girls Mentoring Program?
Girls ages 5-17 can enroll in the program.

*What type of mentoring is available through the Brown Girls Mentoring Program?
​Currently, we only provide group mentoring. Our goal is to offer group and one-on-one mentoring to each brown girl who registers for the 2020-2021 program year. We are in the process of developing the one-on-one mentoring portion of the program. Stay tuned for more information!

*Do I just drop my brown girl(s) off to play with other brown girls?
Parents are encouraged to attend and participate in our program. We plant seeds of abundant growth in your brown girl(s), so they can change the world! Your brown girl(s) will be taught by special guests, mentors, and volunteers. She will learn valuable lessons while attending our sessions.

*Is there an educational component to the program?
We equip each brown girl with tools to build her self-confidence, develop relationships, resolve conflict, make wise decisions, work in teams, and develop practical life skills. We educate your brown girl(s) through lectures, trainings, activities, simulations, role play, affirmations, videos, books and other learning methods.

*How much does it cost for my brown girl to be a part of Brown Girls Mentoring? What is included?
There is a small material fee of $60 for the first brown girl that enrolls in the program. There is a $20 material fee for each additional sibling. This material fee covers the cost for the Brown Girls Mentoring t-shirt, snacks and supplies for each session. The program fee is non-refundable after the second week of the program and/or once her t-shirt is ordered. The season concludes with a Mother’s Day Brunch. All attendees will be required to pay an additional fee. 

*Are scholarships available?
Scholarships are available on a first come first serve basis. Applicants will be notified by the end of October if they qualify for financial assistance. 

*Do you hold informational sessions to share more about the Brown Girls Mentoring Program?
Informational sessions are held in August and September. The dates will be announced. If you are unable to attend an informational session, please request an appointment by sending an email to Brown Girls Mentoring Program at browngirlsmentoringprogram614@gmail.com. 

*Are background checks conducted on volunteers and mentors?
All volunteers are required to complete background checks annually through The City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department and through Mentor Central Ohio.
