The Queens Came Out To Celebrate!

5/15/2019

This past weekend was the 2nd Annual Generations of a Queen Mother's Day Brunch! The sold-out event was held at the Martin De Porres Center in Columbus, Ohio. It was so beautiful to see all of the mothers and daughters come out to enjoy a beautiful day full of music, words of encouragement, and of course the Brown Girl Mentoring experience.

To pull off a fantastic event such as this, Brown Girls Mentoring partnered with event planner Brandy Jackson of Silver Confetti Events. Mrs. Jackson decorated the room with royal elements of gold and purple as well as beautiful balloons for a fun touch.

Our guests were seated at elegantly designed tables where we were served a delicious brunch that consisted of delectable foods and fabulous drinks catered by Gourmet Chef Jason Johnson. There was also a lovely Brown Girls Mentoring backdrop surrounded by theme-colored balloons that helped our guests capture some of our happiest moments at the event.

If any mother/daughter duo wanted to take their photo shoot skills to the next level, the media company Look At Me Now Photobooths, set up shop in a nearby room.

Mothers and daughters could memorialize their day with a personalized photograph that included fun and sassy props.

The talented band, the William Brady Project, provided delightful sounds as our mothers and daughters connected with others who, just like them, strive to make sure our Brown Girls always persevere.

Many vendors surrounded the room ready to help anyone who took an interest in their quality goods. From beautiful jewelry to lovely homemade products, the spirit of entrepreneurship was alive and well during the brunch.

Before we sat down, we were blessed by several performances and awards from some of our biggest supporters. Guest speaker Tammy Fournier Alaada graced the stage with words of encouragement and empowerment, while our Brown Girls Dance team stepped up and showed out!

One of our lovely volunteers, Ms. Kat, put together a beautiful video capturing some of the best moments in our BG sessions. Many were moved by what we discussed during our meetings and even shed a few tears of appreciation.

A significant highlight of the afternoon was when Mrs. Jamie Blunt presented the "I Am Because You Are" award to the incomparable Mrs. Francis Frazier. Mrs. Fraizer has been an instrumental force in our Founder's life and the life of Brown Girls Mentoring.

Although she couldn't come to the event physically, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty sent something just as good; A Congressional Recognition presented to the Brown Girls Mentoring Program for all of their leadership and community engagement.

Towards the end, the Brown Girl volunteers gathered for a group photo signaling the end of this years program. What a way to close out an event!

School is out but it doesn't mean that the Brown Girl Volunteers are done working!  Our 1st Brown Girl Leadership Think Tank for girls ages 12-18 is open for registration. This Think Tank is an opportunity for us to get feedback from our girls on culture, community issues, peer relationships, and more.  We value feedback from our girls because it helps us improve the program and focus on what is important to them.
